Tom's spray truck of Whittaker Ag is now fully prepared to head back to Fairliee.

Optimising the wiring for a tidier cab, we have upgraded the GPS and controllers from TeeJet to Topcon Agriculture's ASC-10 system. The state-of-the-art auto section controller enables precise section control, allowing the truck to effortlessly manoeuvre through various field shapes.

The system is paired with the X25, an impressive 8.3” touchscreen display.

We refitted Tabula's job management system for improved efficiency and created a custom switch box for boom hydraulic control, ensuring a neat and organised setup inside the cab.

We're back at Waipuna Enterprises in Irwell, south of Christchurch with Stuart Stephens to see how his CHC Navigation auto steer is performing!

Bit of background for you... As a Fourth-generation farmer, Stuart farms land that has been passed down through his family for over a century. With over 400 hectares of land, including 140 dedicated to blackcurrants and the rest to arable, Stu also manages the finishing of 2-3 thousand lambs every year.

The currants are sent to China and Japan for extracting the anthocyanins, known for their anti-inflammatory properties and protective effects against type 2 diabetes, cancer, and heart disease.

We aren't finished there, Ᾱrepa's Neuroberry is grown and cultivated right here and they boast some of the highest Vitamin C levels and vibrant colour of any superfruit grown commercially worldwide! Not to mention they also grow and cultivate peas, beans and broad beans for Wattie’s NZ!

Utilising Trimble Inc. technology on larger tractors, Stu was searching for a cost-effective retrofit solution for his Fent 209V, as demonstrated trimming the vines in this video.

After extensive online research and conversations with users, Stu decided on CHC Nav, with reviews in New Zealand and the UK, as well as its competitive pricing compared to other well-known brands.

According to Stu, the CHC Nav steering system has made life easier. "During the early mornings and late evenings, when the sun sits low, manual steering becomes challenging. The auto-steer feature has significantly improved efficiency and reduced driver fatigue on those long days going up and down the rows." Having only recently adopted the CHC Nav system at Total Ag Control, it's promising to see local farmers embracing this technology.

Stu says "While it's still early days with CHC Nav, we are considering installing 2-3 more systems and a base station to enhance our control over auto-steering operations without the hassle of subscriptions."
